A Moveable Feast
“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” - Ernest Hemingway                                            (Hemingway and Parisian pals) I was one of the lucky few from January to June 2008. Paris is a city that consumes you, adopts you, elicits your sorrow the moment you...

Beating The Arab Patriarchy Over The Head With Sex...
I’m a mutt of sorts. My native Californian mother, a nurse, met my immigrant Arab father, a surgeon, in one of those stereotypical cross-cultural love affairs of the early 1980’s. You know the ones: foreign-intellectual-seeks-loophole-to-prevent-deportation-to-war-torn-homeland. There was more to the story, but I’m now cognizant of the fact that this was the...

it's official: movin' to RVA!
It’s finally official! In 3 weeks, I’ll be moving an hour west to Richmond, VA. I feel like I moved there in August, as I’ve been spending every weekend since in the Fan with Joe, but it will be amazing to join him there full-time. For now, I’ll be moving in with Joe and his roommate in their Fan apartment, but in June, we’ll move to our fabulous, adorable, super...

the '90s are [were] all that
Nickelodeon to help Generation Y remember the ’90s  I am inordinately stoked for this. It better be airing on weekends too! Otherwise I will most likely never catch it since I am an old lady and 10 p.m. is a late night out M-F. Thanks, 6:30 a.m. wake ups for the last year and a half. None of these were mentioned in the article but I am crossing my fingers they’ll make an...

Quote for Thought
Just as misery loves company, mediocre individuals generally find comfort in one another. A friend posted this today, in jest, but I think it really resonates. People who refuse to take the reins and steer their lives end up in limbo, and seek validation by surrounding themselves with the similarly-stunted. I’m so thankful my life is replete with exceptional people :)

Fragrance & Fortune
A few weeks ago I sought out some new style blogs to expand my global fashion repertoire, and came across Marian Kihogo. A stylist/writer/creative consultant, Marian’s blog covers everything from Marchesa to Topshop. She recently held a giveaway for Marc Jacobs newest fragrance Daisy Eau So Fresh…          And I won! I am not lucky, so I was pretty darn excited. Hanae Mori’s...

A Girl Could Get Used To This...
Any by that I mean, I already have :) Thank you love! Came home from another grueling day at the office (my *second* desk boasts a foot high wall of paper at the moment) to a delicious gourmet meal. So wonderful. We sipped on Clayhouse Adobe White, a sweet Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc blend, paired with pan-seared salmon and pickled leeks over celery root puree. Oh, and Joe accomplished this...

How to Be a Writer or Something Else  →
petiteleo: At age seven someone gives you one of those magnetic poetry kits and you decide you’re going to become a poet. Imagine a life wearing lots of flowy scarves and a house full of potted plants. Someone informs you that poets make little to no money. You know having money is a good thing so you…  This is all kinds of applicable to my life. Thanks Leo. I’m pretty sure you...
